Exmoor
Recently, the Exmoor is on the rise in the Dutch countryside. This self-reliant breed is becoming increasingly popular among conservationists, mainly because of its genetic link to the original European wild horse. The Exmoor is originally from the English region of the same name, where it has lived a semi-wild existence for many centuries. In the United Kingdom, the breed is mainly found on hilly moorland landscapes, where its well able to survive on a lean diet.
Within the Netherlands the registration of the Exmoors is maintained in a studbook by the 'Samenwerkingsverband Exmoorpony', which in turn has a link to the studbook in the United Kingdom.
